Georges Briard is considered one of the preeminent American mid-century-modern designers of decor and tableware. His distinctive gold overlayed patterns were applied to barware, trays, plates, and other decorative elements. Which were marketed worldwide by retailers such as Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, and Bonwit Teller. Today his designs are now highly coveted by discerning collectors, decorators, and entertainers worldwide.
This set of four glass appetizer "snack" plates are offered in the "Celestial" pattern. 24 carat gold applied decoration featuring classical elements and a smiling sun face. Signed "Georges Briard". The reverse side is covered in a distinctive pebble finish.
Each plate measures 4" diameter x 4" high.
All four are in very good vintage condition. Several plate corners are lightly chipped which is quite normal for Briard glass plates and trays. None of which are easily visible except upon close inspection. Nor are they rough or sharp. Otherwise no additional chips, cracks, flakes, scratches, etching, or clouding of note. There are some very minor surface scratches on the applied gold pattern in some areas. Please see photos for details.
