Rare pair of highly embellished lacquered horseshoe form chairs. Every inch of each chair - top to bottom - front to back - side to side has gilt polychrome painted decoration portraying clouds, dragons, and plant forms over a black lacquer ground. Crafted during the late Qing dynasty these beauties date from the nineteenth century. Both are in very good condition and extremely sturdy. Some paint loss on key pressure points on both post years of use. (see photos for details).
