A beautiful rug from the collection of a connosieur who is "down-sizing". Fortunately for you - they have instructed us to price this beauty "to SELL".

 

Hand woven and knotted in the village of Heriz on the slopes of Mount Salaban. Considere extremely "tough" because the local drinking water is high in copper. Producdting a far more resient wool than elsewhere.  This striking carpet was created sometime in the early 20th century. 

 

Features a rich red ground. Surrounded by a black ground border. Finely detailed center medalion, floral and foliate patterns a range of ivory. blue, gold hues. Eight hand-tied asymetrical knots run in a line per inch for a total of 65 knots per square inch.

 

Measures 102" wide (8' 6")  x 140" long (11' 8").

 

Overall condition is excellent antique with no visible surface or edge wear of note. Some fringe loss - wee photos for details. Note: This rug was previously in a home with dogs prior and has not been professionally cleaned since then.
