Francis William Van Vreeland was a key leader in the Los Angeles/Hollywood art scene from the 1920s - 1950s. Hence his work hung in the homes of many silver screen starts. Known for his floral paintings and Dutch scenes "Toby" was born in Nebraska, Subsequently studying at the Academy Julian in Paris along with the Cincinnati Art Academy. Then becoming an artist at the Rookwood Company whose work is now highly coveted. This work features red and white poppies or anemones with blue nasturtium or violets. Signed F Van Vreeland in the lower right corner. Based on research we believe this to be the original hand carved and gilt frame which appears to have been cleaned, re-gilded, and reglazed (with spacers between painting and glass).. See photo of back for details. The painting itself measures 26.25" wide x 20.25" high. With frame 34.5" wide x 28.75" tall. In EXCELLENT condition, there are no issues of note. Frame shows minimal wear commensurate with age/use.
